Cambridge Central Mosque was packed with guests at its official opening.
President Erdoğan of Turkey arrived amid tight security at the Mill Road mosque today (Thursday, December 5), following his invitation to the opening by mosque patron Yusuf Islam, also known as the singer-songwriter Cat Stevens.
Inside the stunning eco-friendly mosque, which has prayer space for 1,000 worshippers, he spoke and signed a book.
Shahida Rahman, one of two female trustees at the mosque, also addressed guests.
Section of Mill Road and roads around it were closed for much of the day for the visit.
On Saturday (December 7), the mosque will host an open day from 10.30am-4pm as part of the Mill Road Winter Fair.
