In pictures: The Americans fly back in to Imperial War Museum Duxford for air show
The Americans were back in town and back in the skies as the Flying Days: The Americans event – one of the special themed flying days of IWM Duxford’s annual flying season – took place last Friday (July 28).
Air show event manager Phil Hood said: “Duxford’s flying days are a fantastic way to allow our visitors to experience thrilling flying displays as part of their great day out at IWM Duxford.
“Each flying day is represented by a theme that is closely related to Duxford’s aviation history. Many American airmen called Duxford their home during the Second World War and Flying Days: The Americans is a way for us to remember and honour our American friends.
“We had some crowd favourites this past Friday, including the B-17 Flying Fortress and the Lockheed Electra, which made its air show debut for the first time in 80 years at the Duxford Summer Air Show, along with classic American war birds, such as the Thunderbolt and Bearcat.”
The 2023 flying season will host three more themed flying days: 19 Squadron on August 12, Flying Evening on August 26, and the Duxford Flying Finale on October 14.
