Zombies, ghouls and skeletons invaded Histon last weekend as East Anglia’s biggest Halloween festival took place once again.

Zombie Fest 7 – Day of the Dead attracted a gruesome horde of thousands to a new venue, HI:Cambridge, off the A14 at Histon, on Saturday (October 28).

Live acts that performed – across four arenas and a VIP area – included Andy C, Mark Knight, Lisa Maffia Live PA, Baby D Live PA, DJ SKT, Jeremy Healy, Gammer, Lisa Pinup, Kutski, 4am Kru, Ratpack and Pulsar.

Big Ben, a DJ whose company BIG DJs organised the event, said it was “very tiring and exhausting” setting up and running the day, but adds: “Everybody I’ve spoken to seemed to have a really good time, and we were pleased with the upgrade from the previous venue.”

Zombie Fest was previously held at Mildenhall Stadium, which, Ben noted, is a more isolated venue for zombie goings-on.

As the title suggested, it was more ‘Day of the Dead’ than ‘Night of the Living Dead’ this year as the frightful festivities took place from 12pm-12am, as opposed to 6pm-6am.

“There’s been a handful of people who said they preferred Mildenhall, but they’re the night owls among us, so they didn’t come till nine o’clock!

“The way society is now, more people prefer events that are held during the day.”

Between 2,500 and 3,000 people attended over the 12-hour period and Ben hopes they can deliver even more impressive shows in the future.

“We know the area a little bit better now,” he said, “and we’re just moving forward, building on it. It’s not a new, one-hit-wonder event.”

Indeed, Zombie Fest has been a finalist three times in the UK Festival Awards.
