A drink-driver who caused a head-on crash that left a young woman with long-lasting injuries has been jailed.
Kestutis Korzeniauskas, 52, was driving a Vauxhall Insignia along Twenty Pence Road towards Wilburton when he struck a Vauxhall Corsa heading in the opposite direction at about 8am on Monday, 5 June, last year.
The Corsa driver, a 23-year-old woman, was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, with serious injuries.
She recovered and was discharged but now suffers from lasting injuries.
A breath test showed Korzeniauskas was more than three times the legal limit, and a further blood sample contained 177mg of alcohol per 100 millilitres of blood - more than twice the legal limit of 80.
Korzeniauskas, of Heathcote Close, March, was jailed for nine months at at Peterborough Crown Court on Friday (11 October), having pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by careless/inconsiderate driving, drink driving and driving without a licence.
Korzeniauskas was also banned from driving for three years and four months.
He was also convicted of drink driving and driving with no licence in 2017.
Det Con James McAlister said: “If this case doesn’t highlight the dangers of drink driving, I don’t know what will. Korzeniauskas should never have been behind the wheel of a car that morning.
“The victim was just minding her own business when he collided with her, and I would like to commend her bravery and wish her all the best in her recovery.”
