Jail for man caught in Cambridge with weapon for a third time
A man caught with an offensive weapon for the third time has been sent to prison.
Liam Berna, of no fixed abode, was in a heated argument with two men in Market Passage, Cambridge, in the early hours of Monday (7 February) morning.
A member of door staff from a nightclub nearby intervened when the two men said Berna was carrying a knife.
The 29-year-old was detained and a knife was found in his jacket pocket.
Berna pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in a public place at Cambridge Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday (February 8) and was sentenced to six months in prison.
PC Iwona Nowakowska said: “Some people think that carrying a knife provides them with protection. What it actually does is put them, their friends and family in danger and increase the chances of someone being hurt.”
