Knife-wielding Cambridge man jailed for six months
A man seen waving a knife towards members of the public in Cambridge city centre has been jailed.
Nathan Cassidy, 31 of Elizabeth Way, Cambridge, was spotted wielding the kitchen knife by security staff outside a nightclub in the early hours of May 1.
Security officers alerted CCTV operators so Cassidy could be followed safely until police arrived.
He was arrested in Hobson Street and the knife was found discarded nearby.
Cassidy was sentenced to six months in prison after pleading guilty to possession of a knife in a public place and affray at Cambridge Magistrates Court on Tuesday (May 10).
PC Peter Lloyd said: “Thanks to partnership working between the nightclub, CCTV operators and police, Cassidy was apprehended quickly, and the knife removed from the streets.
“It is illegal to carry a knife like this and due to the seriousness of his actions, Cassidy has been jailed.
“Some people think that carrying a knife provides them with protection. What it actually does is put them, their friends and family in danger and increase the chances of someone being hurt.”
