Laughter yoga, music and more at Cambridge Biomedical Campus’s Day of Happiness

There was free music, comedy and laughter yoga as an International Day of Happiness was held at the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Focused on the importance of positivity, happiness and good mental health, the event, which took place in the afternoon and evening of Wednesday, 20 March, began with laughter yoga.

Gill Wilson, campus enlivenment lead, said the atmosphere was “electric”, adding that around 200 people came.

On the benefits of laughter yoga, she said: “Your brain doesn’t know the difference between laughter which is false, as in I’m going to make myself laugh, and real laughter when you’re actually laughing at something – and therefore if you force yourself to laugh, it actually has the same effect on the body, with the endorphins, the feeling of happiness, the uplift.

“So this was a whole session on breathing, meditation and laughter and walking around the room laughing and interacting with others, and I have to say it was quite staggering.”

There was also a bar, food, live music from local musician Chris Andrews, and live stand-up comedy from professional comedian Gary Sansome.
