Man charged with murder of 23-year-old woman in Cambridge




A man has been charged with murder following the death of a woman at a house in Cambridge.

Jon Ismaili, 33, of School Lane, Waterbeach, is charged with murdering Catalina Birlea, 23, whose body was discovered at the property in Chesterton Road on 2 October.

He was arrested on Sunday evening (5 October) and is due to appear at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court this morning (9 October).

A forensic post-mortem examination took place on Wednesday (8 October) and the cause of death will be confirmed following histology and toxicology testing.

A 29-year-old man from Cambridge, who was arrested on suspicion of murder last Thursday (2 October), has been released on bail until 2 January.

Police were called by the ambulance service at about 12.50pm on Thursday, 2 October to the property in Chesterton Road with reports of the sudden death of a woman.
