A 55-year-old man who broke into a garage in Cambridge and stole items worth £2,000 has been jailed.

Damian Webb, of Campkin Road, Cambridge, used bolt croppers to break the padlock of a garage on Arbury Road in the early hours of 11 February.

He was captured on CCTV getting out of a Suzuki Swift and loading items into the vehicle.

A folding bike was taken along with a hedge trimmer, small kitchen appliances and tools.

Officers identified Webb through the CCTV images and found the Suzuki Swift parked in his driveway.

Webb was sentenced to eight months in prison at Huntingdon Magistrates’ Court on Thursday (29 February) after pleading guilty to burglary and activating a previous suspended sentence of burglary and theft in December 2022. He must also pay £1,000 in compensation.

PC Tom Baugh, from the Southern Volume Crime Team, said: “Burglary is not a victimless crime. It is a violation of a person’s home or premises where they and their belongings should feel and be safe and secure. We will continue to target those to commit burglary in our county.”
