Ely man stabbed former partner’s new boyfriend in jealous rage
A 65-year-old man who stabbed his former partner’s new boyfriend in a jealous fit of rage has been jailed.
Eric Paterson went to the victim’s house in Wiles Close, Waterbeach, at about 6.50pm on Tuesday, 12 March, armed with two knives.
He burst in shouting “I want to kill you”, but the man confronted him and managed to get one of the knives.
Paterson got to the man and stabbed him at the top of the arm and in the back.
His ex-partner tried to grab the knife but as she did so, the blade caused a deep cut to her right hand.
Both victims restrained Paterson, who shouted: “If I can’t have you, you’re not going to be with anyone else”.
“If I can’t have you, no one can,” he continued.
Paterson, of Columbine Road, Ely, was jailed for six years on Monday, 16 December, at Peterborough Crown Court, having pleaded guilty to wounding/inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent and three counts of possession of a knife in public.
He was also handed a restraining order against his former partner for 10 years.
Det Con Bethany Boulton said: “Paterson’s aggressive knife attack was fuelled by pure jealousy and has left both victims incredibly traumatised after the ordeal so I’m glad he’s been jailed.”
