Mill Road fire: road closures update
Road closures remain in place at junctions near the scene of the fire on Mill Road.
Police and fire crews have left the scene but road closures remain at the junctions of Kingston Street and Gwydir Street.
The road closures are now being managed by Cambridgeshire County Council’s highways department and barriers have been unstalled around the shop, H Gee, which was the scene of the blaze.
More than 90 firefighters worked through the night on Monday after fire broke out at the property and crews remained working at the scene until late yesterday.
The city council says 29 households were evacuated as a result of the fire and that they are working to ensure everyone has a place to stay.
So far, the head of housing at the city council, David Greening, has confirmed 10 households are making their own arrangements, the council has accommodated eight households, eight have been assisted into further accommodation, five have been rehoused by their own landlord and they have not been able to make contact with a further six.
