Mill Road Winter Fair 2022: All the details, timings and attractions
After a two-year, Covid-enforced gap, the Mill Road Winter Fair is back and will take place on Saturday (December 3), from 10.30am to 4.30pm.
Thousands will take to the streets, shopkeepers will open their doors and local businesses and charities will set up stalls with crafts, gifts and refreshments along the road. There will be a mix of craft and food stalls on Donkey Common and Petersfield Green, a fire engine pull from East Road to Mill Road bridge, along with a mysterious, meditative labyrinth.
This year, for the first time, there will be a full day of film screenings at the ARU Drama Centre in Covent Garden, as well as tours of Mill Road Cemetery at 11.30am and 2pm. The Mill Road History Society will also run history tours in the morning before the fair starts.
The parade, featuring a young people’s marching/dancing band, will be at midday and there will be buskers, circus performers, dancers and more.
The fair will feature live music in Ditchburn Gardens, the Salvation Army Centre Courtyard on Tenison Road, St Barnabas Church, the Argyle Street Housing Co-op and near the Salisbury Club – but look out for performers all along the road.
Another first will be yoga sessions at the Bodywise Studio in Dales Brewery on Gwydir Street.
And many regulars return:
- the Salisbury Club will be open for interactive activities arranged by Cambridge Hands-On Science
- Cambridge 105 will broadcast live from the heart of Romsey town
- children’s activities will be on offer courtesy of University of Cambridge Museums
- Cambridge Storytellers will be in the St Barnabas Centre
- Romsey Mill will host a superb art show.
Community centres, mosques, churches, cafés, pubs and shops are planning to offer stalls, hot food, mulled wine and festive activities for all the family.
The Arco Iris samba band will close the Winter Fair with a flourish in a final parade at 3.20pm. Everything will be cleared away an hour or so later.
Committee member Kirsty said: “It’s so encouraging to once again be able to celebrate this iconic event that plays such an important role in the Mill Road culture and the local community. We are really looking forward to welcoming back the familiar events, faces and sounds, as well as some exciting new additions.”
