Minute’s silence to be held across nation on Sunday in memory of the Queen

A minute’s silence will be held across the nation on Sunday in memory of the Queen.

At 8pm, people are invited to fall silent to mark the occasion, either at home, on their doorstep or street, or at community events and vigils.

The silence comes the day before Her Majesty’s state funeral, following her death at 96 on Thursday, September 8.

It will come shortly after the Queen Consort pays a televised tribute to the late monarch, recalling her “wonderful blue eyes” and saying: “I will always remember her smile.”

Camilla, in pre-recorded words on the BBC, will speak of how Queen Elizabeth II was a “solitary woman” in a male-dominated world.

She will add: “I can’t remember anyone except the Queen being there.”

In Cambridge, a choral service in commemoration of the Queen is due to be held on Sunday at the University of Cambridge church of Great St Mary’s at 5pm on Sunday.

The public are invited to attend, and bring Paddington bears with them - a nod to the Platinum Jubilee film in which the Queen appeared with the character.

Monday’s funeral will be screened at a number of venues in Cambridgeshire, including Great St Mary’s. You can find full details of where to watch the funeral here.

On Tuesday, a special service of choral evensong to mark the death of the Queen and the accession to the throne of King Charles III will take place in King’s College Chapel at 5.30pm on Tuesday, 20 September. The public is invited to attend.
