Work starts on new Cambridge Lidl store
The new Lidl store on Newmarket Road is set to open in the Spring of next year creating 40 new jobs.
The budget supermarket chain confirmed they were planning to open the store in the Spring after the fitting out process began.
The store is located in between the existing Homebase store and neighbouring Dunelm furniture shop and Lidl is working with construction firm WSG to fit it out. Work is expected to take around four month.
Lidl GB’s regional head of property, Andrew Hodgkinson, said:: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to start the fit out. We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far, and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development.”
Lidl GB has experienced continued growth over the years as consumers flock to the supermarket to discover its great value products – more than two thirds of which are sourced from British suppliers - ranging from quality fruit and vegetables, to premium wines from its much coveted Wine Tour collections.
Its ongoing success shows no signs of slowing, with the latest Kantar Worldpanel results highlighting Lidl’s increase in sales year on year and market share of six per cent..
The new store on Newmarket Road will add to Lidl GB’s existing store portfolio of 770 and will form part of the company’s growth plans which hope to see it open more than 50 stores a year.
