Nominate now for our Inspirational YoungStars Awards 2023
It is time to recognise the young stars of our community.
The Cambridge Charity Fundraisers and the Cambridge Independent have teamed up for the second year to launch the Inspirational YoungStars Awards.
Do you know a youngster who has gone above and beyond in the community? Someone who has put other people’s needs first with an act of fundraising? A young person who has shown bravery to help others or save life? Or a young carer who has gone above and beyond what would be expected of someone of their age?
The winners will be celebrated in a ceremony at Cambridge United’s Abbey Stadium on June 30 - which means you’ve only got a few weeks to get your nominations in.
There are four categories and the awards are open for boys and girls aged between 7 and 16. The categories are:
Young Carer – Do you know someone who is a primary or secondary carer who is going above and beyond what is expected of most people their age? It could be looking after parents or helping care for a brother or sister, doing extra jobs around the home such as cooking, cleaning or helping someone get dressed and moving around, or providing physical help.
Outstanding Bravery – Do you know someone who has shown an act of bravery to help others or save life? Do you know someone who has shown tremendous courage in a difficult situation?
Fundraiser – A person who has exceeded all expectations in raising money for a good cause, however large or small the amount. It could be from a marathon running, walking or cycling effort, to organising a cake sale. There are so many great initiatives and ideas that capture the imagination. Are you a charity who have benefited first-hand from the actions of a young fundraiser who is deserving of a nomination? Or did you assist a youngster in bringing an activity into action?
Unsung Hero – For someone that may volunteer their time and make a difference to other people’s lives and deserves recognition for doing so. This category is all-encompassing but seeks to recognise someone who may do the small things that end up making a big difference. It could be someone that offers to do the weekly shop or gardening for a neighbour? Or it could be someone that just calls in to help an elderly or vulnerable person? They may be relatively simple deeds, but they can have a huge impact on the beneficiaries and the community around them.
Ian Darler, of Cambridge Charity Fundraisers, who is also well known as Cambridge United’s stadium manager, said: “I must thank the Cambridge Independent for partnering Cambridge Charity Fundraisers when I approached them pre-pandemic with the idea of saluting the good things children do with an awards event rather than hearing about the negative things. It was a shame we had to wait so long.
“When the Inspirational Young Stars Awards were launched in 2022, our aim was to highlight the good things that children do and show the bravery of children who deal with life’s challenges.
“I believe the winners of the 2022 awards showed so many outstanding, positive skills that children can achieve and set such high standards.
“The journey to find our next award winners for 2023 has begun and once again will be staged at the Abbey Stadium on Friday, June 30.
“We know there are so many outstanding children who have helped their families, their community, raised money for charities, shown outstanding bravery, overcome challenges, helped the environment, worked, or raised money to support wildlife, been a role model or local hero for something they have done to help others.
“I am so grateful to all our 2022 sponsors along with our host presenter Jonathan Park all of which have very kindly signed up for the 2023 awards, along with some exciting new sponsors from leading Cambridge companies to enable us to reward more amazing children.”
Please note that if nominations are by someone other than a parent or guardian, then we will make contact with the nominee’s parent or guardian to seek permission to feature their story.Entries close in early June.
