Operation Hypernova: Cambridge drug dealer jailed after crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis found in safe

A Cambridge drug dealer targeted by police as part of the Operation Hypernova crackdown on exploitation and illegal drugs in the county has been jailed.

Benson Simbule was one of 44 people arrested during the operation, which was designed to make Cambridgeshire hostile towards county lines drug dealers, prevent further exploitation of young and vulnerable people and reduce serious street-based violence.

Benson Simbule, 28, of Eddington Avenue, Cambridge, was sentenced on November 22, 2022, to three years and four months in prison (60879609)

Officers raided the room he was renting in Eddington Avenue in the early hours of September 13 and discovered a mobile phone linking him to class A drug dealing.

They also found crack cocaine, heroin and cannabis with a street value of £3,830 in a safe, along with a shoebox filled with cash.

Simbule, 28, was sentenced at Peterborough Crown Court on Tuesday, November 22, to three years and four months in prison. He had previously pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of crack cocaine and heroin and acquiring criminal property.

Det Con Luke Ephgrave, who investigated, said: “Through his mobile phone and the drugs found in his room we were able to prove Simbule was operating a county line across Cambridge.

“County lines bring misery to our communities in the form of drug dealing, exploitation and violence.”

Operation Hypernova was supported by the Metropolitan Police, British Transport Police and the Eastern Regional Specialist Operation Unit to identify individuals posing the greatest threat to the community.
