A spokesperson for bus operator Stagecoach East said: “One of our vehicles was involved in an incident in which a pedestrian was injured at about 3.45pm on Tuesday, 4 March in Histon. We understand the person involved was taken to hospital. Our first thoughts are for their welfare. Safety is our absolute priority. We will carry out a thorough investigation into the cause of this incident, working with the appropriate authorities.”

A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire County Council, which manages the busway, said: “We’re aware of an incident involving a pedestrian and a bus on the guided busway at Orchard Park. It occurred this evening (Tuesday, 4 March) at about 4pm.

“Our thoughts are with the pedestrian and their family. We’re working with the emergency services, and a full investigation has commenced.

“The busway, and the path which runs alongside it, is currently closed in both directions and buses will be diverted.”

It is not yet known how the incident happened.

In September 2024, the county council confirmed it would plead guilty to health and safety offences following the deaths of three people and the life-changing injuries sustained by a fourth person on the guided busway.

The council admitted it had fallen “far short” of meeting health and safety standards and for that it was “truly sorry”. The charges brought against the council by the Heath and Safety Executive related to the deaths of Jennifer Taylor, Steve Moir and Kathleen Pitts in separate incidents between 2015 and 2021, along with other incidents where individuals accessing the busway were injured.

A fence was installed along a section of the busway to improve cyclist and pedestrian safety.
