Police cordoned off part of Chesterton Road, a busy route in the historic city centre, after they were called early on Sunday morning to deal with reports of an alleged sexual offence. The cordon was lifted just prior to 10.30pm last night (December 15).

Investigations are continuing into the incident and a spokesman for Cambridgeshire police confirmed: "We were called at 8.46am yesterday morning December15 with reports that a sexual offence had been committed in Chesterton Road, Cambridge.

"The scene was cordoned off while investigations took place but was lifted just before 10.30pm yesterday evening.

"The incident is not thought to be linked to the bed and breakfast - which was near to the cordon.

"An investigation has been launched. No arrests have yet been made."
