Preliminary meeting to be held ahead of Cambridge sewage works planning inquiry
A date has been set next month for a preliminary meeting before the long awaited planning inquiry into the relocation of the Cambridge sewage works to Honey Hill.
An application has been made by Anglian Water for an order granting development consent for the Cambridge Waste Water Treatment Plan Relocation project.
If granted, the existing sewage works at Cowley Road in the north of the city will be moved to Honey Hill, a site within the green belt between the villages of Horningsea and Fen Ditton.
This would allow Cambridge City Council to realise its ambition to build a new city district on the current waste water plant site.
This first meeting arranged by the Planning Inspectorate will be on October 17 and interested parties will be invited to comment on the timetable for the full hearing, which is expected to take place in November.
Margaret Starkey, from the Save Honey Hill campaign, said: “We are most definitely going into this ready to fight. We continue to campaign.
“It’s not a matter of hope - we’re going to present our best case. We can’t rely on luck. Or even sympathy.”
The meeting is at Hilton Cambridge City Centre, Downing Street at 9.30am.
Anglian Water was contacted for comment.
