Emergency services are at Duxford Airfield after a crash involving a private aircraft.
A police spokesperson said: “We were informed at 1.41pm of a plane crash at Duxford airfield. Officers from all emergency services are currently on scene.”
The airfield is on the site of the Imperial War Museum in Duxford. A spokesperson for the museum said: “The emergency services are onsite at IWM Duxford responding to an incident involving a private aircraft. We have no further information at this time. IWM Duxford is closing to visitors for the remainder of this afternoon.”
The museum is expected to stay closed until Friday.
Investigators from the Air Accidents Investigation Branch have been sent to the scene.
No information has yet been released about any casualties.
Kate Moore, who had been visiting the museum, said she did not see the crash, but heard it.
“We were outside with our back to it, heard a bang, and turned to see a plume of smoke. Everyone around (was) expressing sudden disquiet.
“After some minutes, a fire engine arrived with the crew who were first on scene. Later more arrived including an air ambulance.
“The crash was a long way away… Many had no idea anything bad had occurred.
“After the joy of seeing a Hurricane fly and other small planes, old and new, it was a tragic ending to the day.
