Rail delays for Cambridgeshire passengers after person hit by train




Rail commuters have faced delays today following reports of a person being hit by a train.

National Rail announced delays this afternoon on the Great Northern route between Ely / Kings Lynn and London Kings Cross and on Thameslink between Cambridge and London Kings Cross / Brighton.

Lines have reopened between Cambridge and Royston following the earlier incident where a person was hit by a train. Trains may still be delayed by up to 30 minutes or cancelled whilst service recovers.

Disruption is expected until 19:00.

A statement from National Rail said: "The emergency services have attended, and the track is now open for the running of trains. However, a number of delays and alterations will remain in effect while the service is normalised.

"You should check live journey planners before starting your journey, and allow at least 30 extra minutes to complete your journey."

Passengers can use their tickets on:

  • Greater Anglia services between London Liverpool Street and Cambridge.
  • London Underground services from London Liverpool Street.
  • Elizabeth line between Liverpool Street and Farringdon.
  • CrossCountry between Cambridge, Peterborough and Ely.
  • East Midlands Railway, between Peterborough and Ely.

There is a limited number of rail replacement buses operating between Hitchin - Royston - Cambridge
