You might be used to tucking into the chocolates from your Advent calendar, but have you considered putting something back?

Gavin Human, a director at estate agency Fine & Country’s Cambridge branch, has set up a ‘reverse Advent calendar’, which means giving something back for a good cause.

He said: “I saw somebody else was doing it and I thought ‘what a fabulous idea’. We’ve done quite a bit for charity in the past and I thought I’d see if anyone else would join us.

“I started the thread and asked other local Twitter followers to join in using the hashtag #reverseadventcalendar – and I have been overwhelmed by the number of companies and individuals that have supported the idea.

“I think we’ve got about 15 to 20 people doing it now.”

Gavin continued: “Each day you add an item of food – I know some people are adding toiletries and other non-food items.

“The idea is to continue adding each day and I will take it to a local foodbank on Christmas Eve.

“Let’s give something back; we always take, take, take – and it doesn’t need to be expensive.”

And it’s not too late to join in.
