An armed robber fled empty-handed after attempting to steal cash from a driver.
Firearms officers and sniffer dogs raced to the scene of the incident on Hills Road in Cambridge at 4pm on March 20 after a male approached the driver of a car and demanded cash.
But he left the scene empty handed while police evacuated residents from nearby homes and searched the grounds of Alliance Court.
A spokesman from Cambridgeshire police said: “We were called at 4.15pm to reports of a robbery, or attempted robbery, on Hills Road in Cambridge.
“There is a report that a firearm was involved, but it is not known at this stage whether the firearm was real or an imitation weapon.
“The firearm was not used, and nobody was injured. The robber disappeared down the street, it is not thought they got away with anything.”
The firearm has not been recovered and no arrests have been made.
