A Cambridgeshire man who stabbed a 32-year-old in the neck, causing a bleeding artery, then kidnapped a motorist has been handed a life sentence.

Michael White used a kitchen knife to attack his victim in Dorset Close, Wyton, at about 4am on April 16, 2022, and left him covered in blood.

White, 37, of Tamar Close, St Ives, then made his way to an associate’s home in Wyton to wash his clothes, the knife and his mobile phone.

The victim banged on the doors of nearby properties to seek help, and was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge for emergency life-saving surgery after suffering an arterial bleed. He had multiple other slash wounds to his hands and face.

White then left Wyton and hailed down a member of the public, demanding a lift to St Ives. He told the driver he “had just killed someone” and threatened to stab him too.

When they arrived in St Ives, he pulled out a knife and punched the driver in the face before walking to his home.

The driver called police and White was arrested at his home just after 7am.

In May 2020, White had launched an unprovoked attack on a 15-year-old boy in Tamar Close, biting off a chunk of his ear.

At Cambridge Crown Court on February 6, White was sentenced to life in prison and must serve a minimum of 11 years and nine months.

He pleaded guilty to kidnap, wounding with intent, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and grievous bodily harm.

Det Con Kenny Reeves, who investigated, said: “White is a dangerous man who considers himself to be above the law and has no concern for the lives or safety of others.

“The sentence he has been given reflects the seriousness of his actions and the danger he poses to members of the public.”
