Shoplifter who ‘causes misery to Cambridge’s businesses’ returned to prison




A shoplifter who “causes misery to Cambridge’s businesses” has been sent back to prison just one week after being released.

Marcus Sapra was released from prison on November 8 after serving 12 weeks for shoplifting offences in Cambridge.

Upon his release he attempted to steal chicken wings from Co-op in Milton Road on Thursday (November 10) and stole alcohol from Tesco in Cherry Hinton on Saturday (November 12).

Sapra, 35, of St Bedes Crescent, Cambridge, was arrested on Saturday and found in possession of a knife.

He pleaded guilty to possession of a knife in a public place, four counts of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order, common assault, criminal damage, using threatening behaviour to cause alarm or distress, attempted theft and theft at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court on Monday (November 14). He was sentenced to 33 weeks in prison.

PC Jess Freeman from the Cambridge Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “Sapra is a prolific shoplifter causing misery to businesses across the city.”
