Oops! New sign on upgraded Milton Road in Cambridge points to hospital demolished two decades ago
A sign pointing to a hospital in Cambridge that was demolished more than 20 years ago was installed as part of the multi-million pound Milton Road upgrade scheme.
The sign near the junction with Arbury Road and Union Lane pointed to Chesterton Hospital, which was demolished in 2003.
The Greater Cambridge Partnership (GCP) said the sign was “incorrectly installed” and has since been removed.
The Milton Road scheme is designed to deliver better bus, bike and walking routes in and out of the city centre.
New footways, cycleways and pedestrian crossings have been completed and new cycle parking installed.
The former hospital was demolished in around 2003 and the site was redeveloped for housing and the Chesterton Medical Centre.
A GCP spokesperson said: “During our work to improve people’s daily journeys along Milton Road, we incorrectly installed a sign directing people to Chesterton Hospital. We would like to thank people who’ve got in touch to point this out - the sign has now been removed and will be replaced with one directing members of the public to Chesterton Medical Centre.
“Now all major works on the scheme are complete, we have had a lot of positive feedback on the improvements which have been made especially linked to safety which is good to hear.”
