South Cambridgeshire District Council seeks to unlock potential of Cambourne High Street
People who live and work in Cambourne are being asked to share their views about the potential for additional shops and homes on the High Street
South Cambridgeshire District Council and property consultancy Carter Jonas are inviting the community to give their views on enhancements to Cambourne High Street.
An event will be held on Monday, July 2 from 3pm to 7.30pm at Cambourne High Street where local residents and businesses will be encouraged to share their thoughts around the High Street as it currently stands, and to discuss ideas for its future. A gazebo will be put up next to the Cambourne Hub to host the event.
In particular, South Cambridgeshire District Council and Carter Jonas are seeking views on:
What is missing from Cambourne High Street?
Does the present Cambourne retail offering provide the variety that the community needs?
Which other shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, etc. might residents realistically like to see introduced?
How accessible is Cambourne High Street and do transport links need to be better?
Is Cambourne High Street home to enough affordable housing?
What type of housing mix do residents feel is required on the undeveloped High Street sites?
Following the feedback session, South Cambridgeshire District Council and Carter Jonas will review the findings with the aim of unlocking the potential of Cambourne High Street.
Cllr Hazel Smith, South Cambridgeshire District Council’s cabinet member for housing, said: “It’s vital that we get an idea of what local people want from Cambourne High Street, by speaking to those who live and work in the community. “With that in mind, I’m really encouraging locals to drop in and see the team on Monday, July 2 to give us their views. We need to know what people want from their local high street so that we can help drive forward changes.
“This is about making Cambourne High Street an even more enjoyable place to live, shop and work.”
Kirstie Watts, senior associate at Carter Jonas, added: “Cambourne High Street is full of potential and there is no one who can help us to maximise that potential like the locals. We are keen to work closely with residents and businesses alike to ensure that future plans reflect their needs; enhancing the residential, retail and commercial offerings of the area.
“This is about bringing forward the right offer for the community, in direct response to their needs.”
