Sparks fly as drink-driver drives Vauxhall Astra home on A142 at Soham with two missing tyres
This was the state of the wheels on a Vauxhall Astra that a man drove in the early house of the morning while over the limit.
Officers stopped Paulius Krasausauskas, from Haddenham, at about 4.30am on September 16 on the A142 at Soham after witnessing lots of sparks coming from the vehicle.
They were shocked to discover he was missing two tyres and the alloy wheels had been scraping across the floor.
Krasausauskas, 38, of Aldreth Road, told police he had been at a friend’s home in Peterborough and was driving home.
A roadside test found he had 65mcg of alcohol in 100ml of breath - almost twice the legal limit of 35mcg. In custody, the level was at 50mcg.
At Cambridge Magistrates’ Court last Thursday (October 12), Krasausauskas pleaded guilty to drink driving and was disqualified from driving for 14 months.
Sgt Andrew Owen, who investigated, said: “This case demonstrates the serious impairment alcohol has on a person’s ability to drive safely.
“Thankfully, no other road users were affected by his decision to drive that morning in a vehicle not fit for purpose.”
