Sunflowers Care fundraises to mark 10 years of caring for children with highly complex medical needs
Sunflowers Care has marked 10 years of supporting children with highly complex medical needs.
The unique nurse-led service in Cottenham ensures children are supported every hour of every day, including over Christmas.
During August, staff and children supported by Sunflowers now and in the past have been walking, running, swimming and wheeling 1,010 kilometres in a bid to raise £5,000 to mark their anniversary.
The money will help transform its garden into an adapted sensory play space.
Sunflowers, rated ‘outstanding’ by CQC, has an adapted four-bedroom home from home to help young people live ordinary lives in extraordinary circumstances.
Lucy Andrews, a co-founder of Sunflowers Care, said: “It took many years, and quite literally blood, sweat and tears, to get Sunflowers open in 2013. To see our 10th birthday is so special.
“It brings me joy every day to come in and see the smiles on children’s faces and hear the impact our work is having from their families.
“We strongly believe in the ethos care should be individually planned and focused on each child, so they are looked after whilst having fun.”
