Teenager sentenced after he was caught carrying a knife for the fourth time

A teenager has been sent to a young offenders institute after being caught carrying a knife for the fourth time.

Iziah Ebanks-Blake was arrested near Clay Farm Drive in Trumpington just after midnight on 20 July after police received 999 calls reporting men fighting in the area.

Ebanks-Blake made off on a bike when officers arrived but fell off as he was cycling away. A kitchen knife was found in bushes near to where he was arrested. While in custody he spat at an officer.

The 18-year-old, of no fixed address was previously charged with knife offences in August 2021, November 2021 and September 2022.

Ebanks-Blake was sentenced to eight months and two weeks in a young offenders institute at Huntingdon Crown Court on Friday (15 November) after admitting possession of a bladed article and assaulting an emergency worker.

Det Con Joanna MacKenzie said: “Some people think that carrying a knife provides them with protection. What it actually does is put them, their friends and family in danger and increases the chances of being hurt.

“As part of our ongoing knife crime prevention work we carry out weapon sweeps, visits to habitual knife carriers and education sessions in schools to explain the dangers and consequences that come from carrying a knife.”
