Teenager who sexually assaulted two women in Cambridge must wear tag and obey curfew
A teenager who sexually assaulted two women in Cambridge as they walked home from a night out has been made subject to an overnight curfew and must wear an electronic tag.
Ahmed Ali, of Gonville Place, Cambridge, was also sentenced to seven months in a young offender institution, suspended for two years, at Peterborough Crown Court yesterday (June 29) and was placed on the sex offenders register.
Ali, now 19, approached two women walking through the city centre on January 10 last year.
He tried to grab one of them and pull her towards a secluded spot.
She was able to get away and return to her friend, but Ali followed and touched them inappropriately, despite them telling him not to do so.
When officers arrived, Ali became abusive, swore at them and spat in their direction.
Ali pleaded guilty to sexual assault, assault by beating and common assault of an emergency worker.
Det Sgt Dan Locke, who investigated, said: “This was a very distressing and frightening experience for the victims and is something no woman should have to put up with.
“We will do all we can to bring offenders before the courts and we take incidents of this nature very seriously.”
