The Cake Box set to open on Cambridge’s Mill Road this weekend
The Cake Box is opening on Mill Road this weekend.
The chain already has stores in Wisbech, St Neots and Peterborough among others - there are more than 200 UK stores already open and the 174 Mill Road outlet is the latest.
“It is our mission to make every celebration a piece of cake,” says the branding for the company which began life as the Eggfree Cake Box with a store in 2008.
The Cake Box is a rags-to-riches story for its owners, Sukh Chamdal, 56, and Pradip Dass, 46. All products are egg-free, as per Chamdal’s lacto-vegetarian diet. It probably helped that he was an Indian sweet chef for the family’s business in the east of London when he decided to produce a range of cakes without eggs - but which sacrificed none of the taste customers expect from the cakes, cheesecakes and cup cakes on the menu.
Each cake is made fresh in-store.
“Each day,” says the company, “over 1,000 cake makers descend on Cake Box stores nationwide to make fresh cakes for thousands of people across the UK. Each cake is made fresh in-store with loving care by our expert cake makers and decorators. We know that every single cake has a special meaning for someone and we take immense pride in that.”
