The gym at Cambridge YMCA is now open 24/7
Will you be working out at 3am?
Gym lovers who endure irregular shift patterns will now be able to work out in the middle of the night, thanks to a new 24-hour facility in Cambridge.
Many fitness enthusiasts find their working arrangements prevent them from visiting a gym during normal daily hours.
Now they can indulge in their fitness regimes by visiting the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough YMCA, which has announced that its members will be able to squeeze in a workout whatever time of the day or night.
The charity operates the gym at Queen Anne House in Gonville Place, Cambridge, and from this week the doors will be open around the clock. The gym is also currently offering a free seven-day trial for new members.
Fitness and training manager Julie Martin believes the way people’s working lives are changing means a 24-hour gym is essential.
She said: “YMCA’s Cambridge gym is located along with their accommodation at Queen Anne House. As the accommodation is open 24/7 it made sense for the gym to be brought into line with those opening hours.
“Midnight workouts might not be everyone’s cup of tea but this will be a great opportunity for members who work shifts or who would otherwise struggle to fit in exercise to make sure they can get the most out of their membership.
“Gym membership starts at just £11.99 per month so these extended opening hours will make the gym even more affordable.
“Although the gym is open 24 hours, only members will be admitted by night staff so anyone wanting to look around or join the gym should pop in between 9am and 5pm.
“Everyone is working more flexibly these days so it’s time to make sure they can work out flexibly too.
“Keeping the gym open with staff present around the clock will allow our members to make the most of their membership and fit their workouts in around work, their studies or their other commitments.”
The gym has been redesigned with the latest equipment. It provides a range of classes including pilates, zumba and even belly dancing. For more details about the gym and the free seven-day trial visit or call 01223 356998.
There are a number of 24-hour gyms already in Cambridge, including Bodyworks and the Pure gym at Cambridge Leisure Park.
Pure plans to open another as part of the redevelopment work at The Grafton. An application has been submitted for a 1,640 sq m gym on the second storey of the former BHS store.
It will offer free fitness classes, including “fast classes” for lunchtimes and peak periods.
