Transport police investigating Waterbeach train and car collision

Miraculously there were no serious injuries.

Huge delays were caused on the trainline yesterday evening (March 29) after a car collided with a train at Waterbeach crossing.

Transport Police responded to the incident, which they are still investigating.

A women, thought to be the driver of the car who was in the vehicle when the impact occurred, was taken to Addenbrooke’s in a stable condition.

British Transport Police said: “We were called at 5.41pm to a level crossing near Waterbeach station, to reports that a car had been struck by a train.

“We attended alongside colleagues from the ambulance service and Cambridgeshire police.

“One woman, believed to be the driver of the car, has been taken to hospital. Her injuries are not believed to be serious.

“We are continuing to investigate the incident and establish how the car came to be on the level crossing. “

A Magpas Air Ambulance spokesperson said: “Magpas Doctor Charlotte Haldane, Paramedic Sally Boor and Paramedic Dan Read landed in a field near a railway crossing, in the Waterbeach area, via the Magpas Air Ambulance.

“They had been called to the scene of a collision involving a train and a car.

“The Magpas enhanced medical team worked alongside an EEAST Ambulance Service paramedic crew to assess a patient who fortunately hadn’t suffered any life-threatening injuries. The patient was then taken in a land ambulance to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in a stable condition.”
