Trumpington Meadows celebrates Chinese new year with dancing and family festivities




More than 500 residents helped welcome in the Year of the Tiger at Trumpington Meadows.

The Cambridge Chinese Cultural School and Trumpington Meadows Delivery and Action Group held the four-hour celebrations at the weekend.

They marked Chinese new year with calligraphy, lantern and dumpling making and balloon modelling.

But the highlight of the day was the lion dance held in the local centre at the start of a special Chinese market, with the ‘God of Fortune’ wishing good luck to all those attending.

The lion dance team headed off to London’s Trafalgar Square to feature in the capital’s own celebrations afterwards.

Following the success of the festivities, it is planned that Chinese new year celebrations will become an annual event in Trumpington Meadows as part of long-term plans to celebrate its growing International community.

The development is due to be completed in late 2023.
