A workman was caught unawares when his parked van and a trailer rolled into the River Cam on Tuesday afternoon.

The van quickly submerged while the trailer was secured to another vehicle to prevent it sinking further.

No one was in the vehicle and there were no casualties.

The Conservators of the River Cam were called to action and a spokesperson said that they had the situation in hand.

It was the new river manager’s first day on the job.

Passing boats were directed around the van and a marker buoy deployed.

The vehicle reportedly belongs to contractors who were working at Magdalene College boathouse.

Vehicle recovery specialists are expected on Wednesday.
