Labour parliamentary candidate Daniel Zeichner and city council leader Lewis Herbert performed a stirring rendition of the Slade classic Merry Christmas Everybody at the Mill Road Winter Fair on Saturday - with the lyrics given the full Brexit treatment.

‘So here it is, Merry Brexit… And there’s no one having fun,’ the pair crooned to the amusement/horror of passers-by.

Mr Zeichner, who is hoping to hold on to Cambridge at Thursday’s General Election, will be hoping he’s more in tune with voters.

The lyrics (in case you want to sing along...)

So here it is, Merry Brexit... And there's no one having fun

It’s the time Jacob Rees-Mogg thinks is a ball

Does his nanny always tell him

That the old songs are the best?

So he’s humming Rule Britannia in his vest

So here it is, Merry Brexit

And there’s no one having fun

Look to the future, how?

Have People’s vote to truly Get Brexit Done

The duo also tackled an alternative version of The Monkees’ I’m a Believer, telling the audience: ‘We are remainers!’
