Watch police footage of dangerous driver speeding through streets of Cambridge and smashing into metal fence
A police chase in which a dangerous driver sped through residential streets in Cambridge, jumped red lights and headed towards oncoming traffic before smashing into a metal fence was captured on dashcam.
Bobby Loveridge, 32, of Cophall Drove, Little Downham, was sentenced to a year in prison, suspended for two years after pleading guilty to dangerous driving, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and possession of a class A drug following the three-minute pursuit on wet roads after dark.
Officers from the road policing unit were on patrol in the city on the afternoon of 27 December 2023 when they spotted a white Nissan Kubistar they suspected to be uninsured.
They activated their blue lights and sirens to signal to the driver to pull over but instead he accelerated and reached speeds of more than 50mph along residential streets in the city.
Loveridge overtook multiple vehicles, went head on towards oncoming traffic and sped through two red traffic lights before losing control and crashing into a metal fence on Mill Road.
Loverridge was sentenced at Cambridge Crown Court on Tuesday (22 October), where he was also ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work and was disqualified from driving for three years, after which he must take an extended retest in order to drive again.
PC Freddie Tomalin, from the road policing unit, said: “Loveridge demonstrated a complete disregard for the safety of other road users when he sped through built-up residential areas in such a reckless manner.
“Thankfully no one was injured by his display of driving that afternoon, but that is no thanks to him.
“Our message is clear, we will not tolerate people to break the law by driving vehicles in a manner that puts other road users, and themselves, at risk of serious injury or death.”
