Watch the reaction as 72-year-old Duxford man wins £82,000 supercar after buying 17p ticket
A Duxford pensioner who won an £82,000 supercar in an online competition is to give the keys to his son.
Paul Nevard, 72, won the Audi R8 V10 in the competition run by BOTB, which cost him just 17p to enter.
He was stunned when BOTB presenter Christian Williams turned up at his home to deliver the news that he had won the supercar.
Christian then led him to his spectacular new set of wheels, boasting 550bhp.
Paul said: “I thought it had to be worth a shot, and I had an odd feeling I was going to win.”
A self-confessed petrolhead and former Mini racing driver who worked in the motor trade industry, Paul has long loved powerful cars.
He owns a 2003 Volvo V70 R, but his serious lung condition makes it difficult for him to maintain and enjoy it.
“I was actually thinking of buying an Audi!” Paul added. “The R8 is a fantastic vehicle.”
But instead, he is giving the car to his son Matt.
Paul said: “Matt, who has helped look after me, has been the best son in the world. I’ll let him take me for a drive in it.”
Matt was in on the surprise and helped BOTB presenter Christian Williams deliver the news.
“I’m as stunned as my dad is – totally blown away,” he said.
Christian said: “Paul’s reaction was priceless – and you can tell winning means a lot.
“The Audi R8 is a seriously special machine, and it’s a testament to Paul’s generosity that he’s planning to give it to his son. What a lovely gesture.”
The Fulham-based car competitions company BOTB hands over the keys to a dream car each week, along with lifestyle prizes. It gives people the chance to win a holiday, cash, tech, cars and more in its Instant Wins Competition.
Since it was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999, BOTB has given away £92.6million worth of cars.
