Webinar planned as new sustainability measures and vehicle restrictions approved at Devonshire Gardens development in Cambridge

Demolition is now complete at the Devonshire Gardens site in Cambridge and a webinar is to be held to update residents on revised plans for the development.

The former Travis Perkins site is being converted into 150,000 sq ft of commercial space and, 70 residential apartments, with 8,500 sq ft of food and beverage space, and 1.55 acres of public open spaces.

Cambridge City Council last month granted permission for a number of minor design amendments for the site off Mill Road.

The changes include the addition of more solar panels and all-electric air source heat pumps for each apartment to cut residents’ energy bills, while more trees and rain gardens at the entrance points will improve the arrival at the site. Further restrictions for vehicles have also been introduced, while layouts for the apartments have been updated and additional balconies and roof terraces planned.

Developer Railpen will provide an update and answer questions at a webinar at 2pm on Monday, 24 June.

Richard van Lente, senior asset and development manager at Railpen, said:: “We are delighted to have received approval from the Council to further enhance Devonshire Gardens’ sustainability credentials and look forward to welcoming the community at our webinar event to provide an update on the progress on site.

“We strive to deliver developments that benefit the lives of future residents and surrounding communities, and we are proud to deliver this while recognising our commitment to protecting the environment. We are pleased that Cambridge City Council are aligned with us in our vision to make Devonshire Gardens a community space for all to enjoy.”

Doug Higgins, development director at developer Socius, said: “Once construction is completed, Devonshire Gardens will be more than just a sustainable living space for future residents – it will be a community hub where residents, workers and members of the surrounding community can gather to enjoy nature and each other’s company. We look forward to moving into the next phase of our construction and delivering what we hope will be a real asset for residents of Devonshire Road and the surrounding neighbourhoods.”
