Youths ‘fire slingshot’ at woman in Milton Country Park
A woman who was walking through Milton Country Park has described being shot at with a steel ball bearing from a slingshot by a group of youths who were following her.
The victim told police she had been approached an intimidated by the youths yesterday (Wednesday, November 9) and then fired at.
A post on a Milton village Facebook group from the victim described the incident. It said: “Around 2:30pm today I came across three teenage boys in the centre of the country park. They asked if they could walk with me and if I knew where Fen Road was.
“I’m pretty sure of myself and have worked with teenagers a lot so they didn’t intimidate me at that point. They then told me they were thirteen, what they wanted to do to me sexually, and showed me a slingshot and [steel] ball bearings. They shot at pigeons. I told them that I needed to go a different way and that the river was in a specific direction.
“As I was feeling relieved that they’d gone, I felt something whizz by in front of my head and realised that they’d fired the slingshot at me. At that point I ran and ran. Thankfully I am fit enough to be able to. I have reported the incident to the police and will be making a statement. I will absolutely recognise them. Always report these interactions as the police need to build a picture of what’s going on. I feel lucky that it was me and not somebody more vulnerable. But I will, sadly, think twice about going walking in there on my own."
A spokesperson for Cambridgeshire police confirmed the details of the incident, including the victim being shot at with a slingshot. They added: “We were called at 5.45pm yesterday (8 November) with reports a woman had been approached and intimidated by a group of youths in Milton Country Park. An investigation is ongoing.”
