Albert Portsmouth in scoring form for England Counties
Cambridge centre gets three tries on tour of Spain
Albert Portsmouth was among the tries as England Counties secured two wins on their tour of Spain.
The Cambridge Rugby Club centre started both matches, against Euskarians and the Spain XV, and was joined in the squad by club team-mate Dan Seal, who began on the bench for both games.
Portsmouth got the sixth try in the 61-19 win over Euskarians in San Sebastian.
And there was further joy for the England Counties side – which is made up of players from National League One and below – in Guadalajara, where they took on the Spanish national team.
Portsmouth got England’s second try in the first half, showing some impressive footwork to round Spain’s full-back to touch down.
And after Spain scored, fly-half Rhys Hayes increased England’s lead and the Cambridge man was then at it again, with the centre dotting down his second after 22 minutes.
Two further tries for England, from Robin Wedlake and Matt Shepherd, made it 33-7 at half time.
Spain mounted a spirited comeback in the second half, reducing the arrears to 33-21.
Max Trimble scored in the corner to give England some breathing space, however Spain responded with their own try
But a late try from Harry Bate finished the match for England.
