Alex Melloy clinched an impressive silver medal representing Cambridgeshire at the 2022 English Schools’ Athletic Association Cross Country Championships.

At the event at Hop Farm, Paddock Wood, the Cambridge & Coleridge AC member was taking part in the senior boys’ category.

He clocked 23min 17sec to earn second place, and only missed out on the gold medal by five seconds, with Kent’s Louis Small winning in 23.12.

It helped Cambridgeshire finish 10th in the category, with Isaac Rothwell aiding the cause by taking 23rd place in 24.28.

There was a top performance from Noah Scott-Donkin in the junior boys’ section. The Cambs athlete was 11th in 43.18, in a category that had 330 entries.

Cressida Hughes was inside the top 30 in the junior girls’ category.

She timed 13.05 to take 29th out of 340 runners.

It was the same position taken by Liam Conway in the intermediate boys’ event, in 20.25, with Cambs team-mate Jacob Trangmar not far behind in 32nd, in 20.29.

Ellie Loosley was 32nd in the intermediate girls’ race in 14.41, out of 331.
