A record number of crews took part in the annual Christmas Head on the River Cam.
There were 176 boats competing on the course, which was just under 2,000m from Peters Posts to the Goldie Boathouse, and as one of the last events of the year, many of the rowers got involved in the festive spirit.
A fine array of costumes were on display, with racers dressed as Christmas trees, punks, cows and maids, and crabs, among other things, but the winner of the best fancy dress was a boat from host club City of Cambridge, who were dressed as the aliens from Toy Story.
And the host club tied with Cantabrigian Rowing Club in achieving five wins each across the 26 categories, with Cambridge 99 Rowing Club earning four wins.
City of Cambridge dominated the men’s events, having the fastest men’s eight, the fastest masters C/D eight and the fastest masters E/F eight.
Hills Road were the fastest men’s novice eight, while Cantabs boated the fastest women’s eight and the fastest women’s coxed four.
City of Cambridge’s junior girls won the women’s novice eight, a particularly impressive feat as most of the crew are J16 rowers.
And the fastest men’s and women’s scullers were from Rob Roy Boat Club and Champion of the Thames respectively.
With the winding course into the centre of Cambridge, there was a prize for the best racing line taken around the corner at the Green Dragon bridge and that was earned by Rob Roy novice coxed quad the ‘Robroyettes’.
