Final flourish earns win over Genesis

Angel Martinez struck a last-minute goal to help Cambridge United make it three wins in a row in the FA Futsal National Super League with a 6-5 victory over Genesis Futsal Club.

The U’s dominated the opening exchanges and established a 2-0 lead by half time, and they had increased their advantage to 4-1 by midway through the second half.

But the East London side fought back to 4-4, and although United went 5-4 in front, Genesis equalised again, with less than a minute remaining.

But Martinez was on hand for a calmly taken winner with just six seconds left on the clock to the delight of the home crowd and the despair of the visitors.

His goal added to earlier doubles from Monty Bouttell and George Harlow, and one from Alberto Morcillo.

After a tough start to the season, the third win on the bounce takes United up to seventh place in the table, level on points with London City and Manchester, who are above them by virtue of a better goal difference.

United travel to Oxford City on Sunday (December 10).
