Five medals earned at national championships

Anglia Ruskin University’s judokas had a golden charge in their medal haul at the British Universities & Colleges Sport National Championships.

At the event in Sheffield, Ben Caldwell triumphed over York St John University’s Aaron Hales in the under-60kg category.

Mateja Glusac won the under-100kg event for his third BUCS individual gold with victory over Loughborough University’s Rhys Thompson.

And Billy Goldsmith defeated Wolverhampton’s Ben Attwood in the under-66kg section.

It led to Anglia Ruskin taking the most individual wins of all universities competing in the judo section.

There was also a silver medal earned by Adam Adaman in the under-81kg category, while Anglia Ruskin took home the bronze medal in the team championship, with Wolverhampton taking gold.

Martin Beaver, head of Sport and Active Anglia, said: “Anglia Ruskin University has a reputation for excellence in judo and once again our young judokas had a very successful weekend in Sheffield.

“It is always a pleasure to see them competing at such a high level against the best students in the UK.”
