Plymouth Argyle came up short with offer for Cambridge United attacker Harvey Knibbs

Boss Steven Schumacher has confirmed that it was Plymouth Argyle that had a bid for Harvey Knibbs rejected by Cambridge United earlier this month.

U’s head coach Mark Bonner revealed during this morning’s press conference that the club had turned down an offer for the attacker, but stopped short at naming the interested party.

Widespread speculation suggested that Argyle were the club in question and Schumacher has now ratified those reports.

And while the Sky Bet League One leaders are unlikely to make an improved offer, they could move for Knibbs again in the summer when he is due to become a free agent.

The Plymouth manager told reporters: “Yeah, we did (bid for Knibbs), I'm not going to lie. We like Harvey Knibbs, we put a bid in for him and it wasn't accepted.

“Mark said they want to keep him until the end of the season because they are obviously in a little bit of a position where they are going to have to have their best players so we accepted that and we moved on.

“I know Mark quite well and he told me they are not really wanting to sell him. I think that one we might have to revisit it in the summer, possibly.”
