Duo suffer East Anglian Premier League slip-ups

Batting frailties hindered both Cambridge Granta and Burwell & Exning in the Gibbs Denley East Anglian Premier League.

Granta took on Frinton-On-Sea at Clare College Sports Ground, and having won the toss, put the visitors in to bat.

Frinton were able to build some valuable partnerships during their innings, and with half-centuries for Mervyn Westfield (78) and Kyran Young (50), they closed on 256 for 6.

Ben Claydon was the pick of the bowlers with four for 27.

Granta faced an uphill task after finding themselves at 17 for 3, and then 48 for 5.

Some respectability was put on the score by Chris Benjamin (62) and Alex Seas (54), but they ended up being bowled out for 172.

It was no better for Burwell & Exning, as they suffered a 128-run defeat to bottom side Norwich.

Chris Borrett’s 42 helped steer Norwich to 188 for 9, as Andrew Bramley took four for 32.

Burwell & Exning then had a nightmare with the bat.

Only Joe Tetley (12) and Bramley (14) got into double figures as they were skittled out for 60.

With two matches of the season remaining, Granta are away to leaders Sudbury on Saturday, while Burwell & Exning host a rejuvenated Bury St Edmunds.
