Cambridge City Hockey Club’s Alice Beardmore scores hat-trick in East League win over Ipswich & East Suffolk
Alice Beardmore continued her impressive season in front of goal as Cambridge City’s East League sides returned to action for the first time in 2025 at the weekend.
Going into the Christmas break, Beardmore had scored in every East Women’s League Division 1 North fixture for Cambridge City IV this term.
And she showed no signs of letting up on Saturday with a hat-trick in the 8-0 thrashing of relegation-threatened Ipswich & East Suffolk.
Vicki Franks (2), Eva King, Imogen Tooley and Becky Hayward were also on target for City, who sit third in the table with an eight-point deficit to table-topping Cambridge University II.
Elsewhere, in the East Women’s League Premier Division, Cambridge City were pegged back late on in their 1-1 draw with leaders Bishop’s Stortford.
Sadie Werrett scored what appeared to be the winning goal for City with just four minutes remaining, only for Stortford to respond with an equaliser 120 seconds later.
In the same division Cambridge City III were beaten 3-0 at home by Harleston Magpies III, but Cambridge City V fared much better in their East Women’s League Division 2 North West contest with Cambridge Nomads.
Third-placed City ran out 6-2 winners thanks to a pair of braces from Eloise Hardy and Steph Atkinson, while Xanthe Stebbing and Violet Whitaker were also on target.
Meanwhile, in the East Women’s League Division 3 North West, Cambridge City VI played out a 0-0 draw with Long Sutton.
In the East Men’s League Division 1 North, Cambridge City II opened up a five-point gap in the promotion race courtesy of their narrow 1-0 win at Harleston Magpies II.
Ben Dudgeon was the match winner for City, who are just three points behind leaders Cambridge University.
At the top of the East Men’s League Division 3 North West, Cambridge City III came out on top 3-1 against club-mates Cambridge City IV.
David Gibson, Ben Journeaux and Adam Stevens all scored for the thirds, who remain top of the standings, while Barnaby Warr netted for the fourths, who have dropped to third.
There was also an inter-club encounter in the East Men’s League Division 4 North West as Cambridge City V triumphed 5-0 against Cambridge City VI.
Streetja Jonada led the way with a hat-trick alongside further goals scored by Andy Herriott and Rich Brixey.
And in the age-group cup competitions on Sunday, Cambridge City Over-35s won 7-6 on penalty strokes to overcome Broxbourne, while Cambridge City Over-45s ran out 5-0 winners against opposition from the same club.
