Bella Simmons bags a brace in Cambridge City Ladies Development's victory over Histon Ladies
Bella Simmons scored twice for Cambridge City Ladies Development as they defeated Histon Ladies 2-0 in the Eastern Region Women’s Football League, Division One North.
The Lilywhites made an energetic start to settle into their stride early on, grabbing the opening goal after just six minutes.
Molly White fed the ball through to Simmons, who tucked a shot into the bottom right-hand corner of the net.
City increased their lead in the 13th minute as Rachel Pearce’s perfect diagonal ball found Simmons to side-foot home.
Histon stuck to the task and came more into the game as the half progressed, though not really troubling the City defence too much as it remained 2-0 at half time.
City dominated after the break, but were not as clinical as in previous matches, hitting the woodwork on numerous occasions and being thwarted by the Histon keeper.
Cambridge City Ladies have been given a home incentive in the Women’s FA Cup, third round qualifying draw.
But Cambridge United Women would face more time on the road.
Both of their second-round matches last Sunday were postponed because of waterlogged pitches, but they at least now know their possible paths in the competition.
City face St Albans Ladies at home this Sunday, and if they win would play host to AFC Basildon.
United are away to Norwich City Women in the rearranged match this Sunday, and then would travel to Ipswich Town or Royston Town.
